squat in the Soho area of central London that was being occupied by anti-G8
protesters.
Around 100 police officers launched a raid on the
building earlier on Tuesday.
The protesters took over the unused office block as
a temporary base ahead of a planned convergence on so-called "capitalist
targets" in the capital's West End - home to many global businesses.
The police raid takes place ahead of a two-day
summit of the eight leading industrialised nations in Northern Ireland next
week.

hosts the meeting of the Group of Eight leading industrialised nations at a
golf resort in Northern Ireland.
Some of the world's biggest hedge funds, private
equity firms and banks have warned their staff to take precautions in the event
of disruption after similar protests in recent years led to violent clashes
with police, vandalism and buildings being temporarily occupied.
Police descended on premises just off Regent Street,
one of London's best known shopping areas, in the fashionable Soho district,
where the StopG8 group had been meeting before the demonstration.
More than 100 officers in riot uniforms formed a
cordon, trapping the gathering protesters in a tight area around Beak Street as
police helicopters hovered above and reinforcements waited in vans.
London's Metropolitan Police said it had a search
warrant for the address. Activists, some with their faces covered, waved black,
green and red flags as they marched through Oxford Street. They carried banners
saying "No borders, no prisons, no capitalism" and "One Common
Struggle".
There were skirmishes around Oxford Street, with
television footage showing police dragging one protester to the ground. Reuters
witnesses saw at least five people arrested near Piccadilly Circus.

Protes Spring Turki: Erdogan memberitahu Parlimen kesabaran beliau semakin suntuk melalui demonstrasi. Polis rusuhan di Istanbul telah memaksa cara mereka ke Taksim Square untuk membersihkan plaza penunjuk perasaan. Keselamatan memaksa gas pemedih mata yang digunakan mereka dan meriam air untuk membersihkan penunjuk perasaan yang bertindak balas dengan membaling mercun, batu, dan koktel Molotov kembali pada pihak polis.

Turkish Spring Protests: Erdogan tells parliament his patience is running out over demonstrations. Riot police in Istanbul have forced their way into Taksim Square to clear the plaza of protesters. Security forces their used teargas and water cannons to clear out demonstrators who responded by throwing fireworks, stones, and Molotov cocktails back at the police.
The move comes as Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed to meet protest leaders tomorrow. Erdogan has repeatedly taken a hard line against the demonstratщкі demanding they disperse and labelling the protesters looters and vandals.
Some 3 people have been killed so far in the protests and more than 5,000 injured. The mass protests which have spread to several major Turkish cities were sparked by a police crackdown on peaceful protest to the government's planned demolotion of central Istanbul's Gezi Park.

Crowd control vehicles fired water cannon against groups of protesters who threw stones, fireworks and petrol bombs at the police.
When a missile landed very close to a water cannon, flames shot up around the vehicle. Another water cannon drove up and sprayed the flames until they were extinguished. Report by Matt Blake.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has spoken in parliament in Ankara, telling deputies that his patience is running thin with protesters, who have demonstrated against his government for over a week in dozens of cities across the country. Meanwhile, hundreds of riot police briefly cleared demonstrators from Taksim Square in Istanbul. Protesters returned and clashes ensued.
