Street protests in Spain

Employees of the largest Spanish airline, Iberia have planned a 15-day demonstration between February and March as the company decided to lay off 4,500 of its work forces.

These mobilizations have occurred after failure of negotiations between management and unions. The critical voices believe these decisions are direct order from the British company IAG, owner of British Airways, which acquired Iberia several years ago.

Workers believe the company wants to make a low cost airline and the British will stick to the more profitable business areas.

Meanwhile, in the Spanish capital, a crowd of people facing mortgage crisis have protested outside the office of a mortgage lender and camped for 100 days in Celenque Square to give visibility to this issue. Nearly 40,000 homes in Spain have been seized by banks in 2012, due to foreclosures.
